Our History
When Jim Columbo of Jenison decided to go into business for himself in 1988, he never dreamed things would take off to the extent that they have for his then one-man operation.
Today, Columbo's Floors To Go has established itself as one of the largest single-location floor covering dealers in Michigan, serving all the flooring and installation needs for residential, commercial, contractor and property management customers in West Michigan. To Columbo and his co-founder, Scott Ehrhardt, leadership in the commercial and retail sectors of the flooring marketplace is a natural outflow of the customer relationships they've built by standing behind both their work and the products lines they choose to carry.
"Good business is all about relationships. We've built this business based on our commitment ot maintaining good relationships with our employees, our suppliers, and our customers," Columbo said.
The Columbo team has grown from a one-man operation in 1988 to a team of 10 full-time office and sales staff and 30 professional installation crews. The cameraderie and commitment of the team has created an environment for success.
"A key factor to our success is the fact that everyone on our team truly believes in the company, and is completely committed to is continued success," said Ehrhardt. "We're foruntate to have really great people working for us."
In 2005, Columbo's joined the national Floors To Go family of floor covering retailers. It is a unique buying group that provides its members all of the benefits of being a part of a national buying gorup, while still fully maintaining their ownership and grassroots community philosophy. The partnering also gives Columbos the ability to carry exclusive brand and warranties not available to other dealers, which adds even more value to the Columbo suite of offerings
